It's getting colder and dryer outside, which means... it's nose bleed season!

To treat:

  • Spray your nose with Afrin (oxymetazoline) and pinch the SOFT, front part of the nose for 10 minutes (set a timer!). Repeat as needed.

  • If the nose bleed is too brisk for the nasal spray, soak a cotton ball with Afrin, then place in the front of the nose, and pinch onto it.

  • Don't let go too early or you risk ripping off the soft clot and starting all over again. Use one of these if you need help

  • Hold your head forward over a sink. Leaning your head back allows the blood to be swallowed, which won't hurt you, but makes some people nauseous.

To prevent:

  • Avoid rubbing or scratching your nose.

  • Keep fingers, tissues and Qtips out of your nose.

  • Keep your nose moisturized with nasal saline gel and a humidifier at night.
